Spinal Rehabilitation
Men and women suffer from all types of spinal symptoms, including pain, numbness, tingling, weakness and even headaches. Studies indicate that between half and three quarters of the population will experience spinal symptoms at some time in their adult life. In fact, for persons under the age of 45, low back problems are the most common cause of disability.

The anatomy of the spine includes a network of joints, bones, discs, and nerves aligned in a curved position supported by muscles and ligaments to form a complex functional unit. Problems develop due to a combination of trauma, poor postural habits, job requirements and activities of daily living. It’s no wonder spinal problems are so common.

METRO SPORTSMED®'s SPINE REHABILITATION PROGRAM is staffed by leading physical therapists with specific training in reducing patient’s mechanical symptoms and developing stabilization techniques. The diagnosis and conditions which are treated include:

  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Herniated or Prolapsed Disc
  • Bulging Disc
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Piriformis Syndrome
  • Degenerative Joint Disease or Arthritis
  • Post-Operative Complications
  • Spondylosis
  • Spondylolisis
  • Spondylolisthesis
  • SI Joint Dysfunction
  • Whiplash Injuries
  • Ligament Sprains
  • Muscle Strains

Evaluation includes obtaining a detailed subjective history followed by assessment of both active range of motion and the effects of repeated movements on the symptoms. The evaluation always concludes with education on the possible treatment options as well as a personalized home exercise program.

Treatment will include one on one hands on therapy and frequent reassessment of the symptoms, followed by progression of exercises designed to both reduce the symptoms and stabilize the spine to help improve functional mobility.

The goal of physical therapy is to reduce the symptoms. Ultimately, it’s through patient education and involvement in continued exercise that will help maintain the improvements for activities that have been painful and difficult for so long.
